1) What is "OSx86 Compatible"?
"OSx86 Compatible" essentially means the ability to run
a slightly modified version of the
Mac OS X® operating system on an Intel-based computer that's not an authentic Apple Macintosh.
This slightly modified version of Apple's operating system is commonly known as
"OSx86", and much of its development is attributable to a community-supported
group known as the 'OSx86 Project'. OSx86 is not an authorized operating system
release by Apple, Inc and its distribution may violate copyright law. Note: RSOL
PC does not promote, endorse or participate in the distribution or use of illegal
software.

2) What is "Leopard" or Mac OS X?
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard® is arguably one of the best operating systems
available. It is manufactured by Apple, Inc and designed to run exclusively on
Apple Macintosh computers. Leopard is a powerful
alternative to Microsoft Windows that is used on the majority of computers
worldwide. OSx86 is a slightly modified version of Leopard and is able to run on
specific traditional PC hardware components. OSx86 is not released by Apple,
Inc.

3) What is "Ubuntu" or "Fedora"?
Ubuntu and Fedora are Linux operating systems that have
been growing in popularity over the last few years. Fedora is developed by the
community-supported 'Fedora Project', and is sponsored by Red Hat. Ubuntu is
another Linux distribution that has consistently been rated among the most
popular since its first release in 2004. Fedora and Ubuntu are refreshing
alternatives to Microsoft Windows that is used on 91% of computers
worldwide.

4) What is the Multi-Platform Desktop from RSOL PC?
The Multi-Platform Desktop from RSOL PC is a computer that is
technically capable of running multiple operating systems, either independently
or simultaneously, with minimal or no software patching. These operating systems include: Microsoft Windows®,
OSx86,
Fedora, and Ubuntu. Please note: the installation of Mac OS X onto the
Multi-Platform
Desktop from RSOL PC is a violation of the Mac OS X®
EULA. For additional
information please refer to the dedicated page on
our web site that clearly discourages the use of OSx86 or Leopard on non-Apple
hardware.

5) Will I receive an operating system CD/DVD with my Multi-Platform Desktop?
A genuine Windows® operating system CD/DVD will be included
with your Multi-Platform Desktop if you have opted for us to preinstall Windows® onto
your model. We will not include any other operating system at this
time.

6) How do I install OSx86, Ubuntu or Fedora onto RSOL PC's Multi-Platform Desktop computers?
The installation of an
operating system is a very precise process, but certainly something you can accomplish
by performing simple research on the internet. Popular sources of information can be
found by querying "osx86" in any web search engine. A similar strategy
can be applied if you need assistance with re-installing Fedora or Ubuntu. Please
note: installing Mac OS X 10.5 onto a computer that has not been manufactured by Apple, Inc is a
violation of the Mac OS X 10.5 Software EULA.
Top
7) Will OSx86 be preinstalled on my Multi-Platform Desktop from RSOL PC?
No. Although RSOL PC's Multi-Platform Desktops are capable of
running OSx86, we will not pre-install the operating system on your
behalf because you must personally agree to the terms & conditions of the EULA,
and RSOL PC is not authorized by Apple, Inc to distribute or modify their software. If you
want a computer that is preinstalled with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard®,
RSOL PC recommends you purchase a genuine Macintosh computer from an Apple
authorized reseller.
For additional information please refer to the
dedicated page on our web site that clearly discourages the use of OSx86 or
Leopard on non-Apple hardware.

8) What kind of warranty is included with the Multi-Platform Desktop models?
All Multi-Platform Desktop computers from RSOL PC include a 1 year
hardware limited warranty and 90-days software support for the preinstalled Windows®
environment. Unfortunately no software support is provided by RSOL PC for any
OSx86 or Linux environments at this time.

9) Can I use the Apple Update feature?
If you choose to install OSx86 onto your
Multi-Platform Desktop
from RSOL PC, it is strongly recommended that you do not attempt to use
the Apple Software Update feature of OS X®. While your
Multi-Platform computer is capable
of running OSx86, you should always remember that the hardware components are
designed primarily to run in a Windows® environment, and any new features or
"fixes" that are released for OS X® could potentially corrupt your system.

10) Is it ok for me to violate Apple's software EULA?
If you violate Apple, Inc's software EULA you are
effectively breaking a contract, and would be subject to
whatever penalties there are for doing so if Apple, Inc is successful in taking
any legal action against you. RSOL PC cannot recommend or endorse that you
violate Apple's software EULA. For additional information please refer to the
dedicated page on our web site that clearly
discourages the use of OSx86 or Leopard on non-Apple hardware.

11) Can I install my own operating system on the Multi-Platform Desktop?
You are authorized to install any compatible operating system you wish
providing you have a valid license to do so, but please
bear in mind that we will only be able to provide warranty support for your
hardware, not any third party operating systems. Also note that you are fully
responsible for adhering to the terms and conditions of the Operating System's
EULA.
Top
12) Can I order a Multi-Platform Desktop without an operating system?
Yes. However please be advised that your warranty support
will be limited to hardware only.
Top
13) How long will it take for me to receive my Multi-Platform Desktop?
Your Multi-Platform Desktop will ship within 10 business days of
our receipt of your payment. If there are any delays we will personally call you
in addition to sending an email.
Top
14) Do you ship internationally?
Unfortunately we are unable
to ship our desktops outside of the United States. If you are outside the United
States and wish to purchase our computers, consider making arrangements with a
friend or family member that does live within the United States. We would be
happy to ship your computer directly to them instead, and they could in turn
forward the computer to your country.

15) Why should I buy a Multi-Platform Desktop instead of a Mac?
This is a very common question and
one that requires a detailed answer. The Multi-Platform Desktops from RSOL are
affordable computers that have the capability of delivering moderate to high
performance and the freedom to run multiple operating system environments with
little or no hardware incompatibility issues. Our models are targeted to the
typical Windows user that desires a PC that can offer more operating system
flexibility than the models from the big manufacturers like HP, Dell and Acer.
Because of this inherent flexibility, some people have begun to associate our
models to those offered by Apple, Inc. While it is very flattering, the
comparison is in our opinion misguided, and instead a testament that our models
can and have crossed over to other operating system platforms. Realistically,
RSOL PC does not expect many (if any) Mac owners to suddenly abandon their
computers for one of ours. What we do expect though are Windows users placing
orders because they're looking for an affordable Windows-based computer that can
run other operating systems like Linux.
We find it odd that some journalists & bloggers keep stating anybody
can build their own computer with the same capabilities as our Multi-Platform
models, so that is enough reason not to buy our Multi-Platform models. While it
is true that our Multi-Platform models can be duplicated by a hobbyist, the same
can be said for any computer produced by HP, Dell and Acer. Most of these bloggers and journalists do not recognize the
average computer
user does not feel comfortable or have the expertise or time in building their
own computer from scratch. Fortunately we do recognize this, and is why we build
desktop computers in the first place - just
like Dell, HP, Acer and even Apple.

16) Does the Multi-Platform Desktop come with a keyboard & mouse?
Yes! Your Multi-Platform Desktop computer includes a mouse &
keyboard.
Top
17) Do I have to pay extra for a Firewire card?
Absolutely not! Firewire capability is included as standard
equipment on our Multi-Platform Desktop models.
Top
18) Do you offer a reseller program?
Not at this time. We firmly believe in dealing with our
end-user customers directly.
Top
19) Is OS X Leopard or Ubuntu or Fedora better than Vista?
Each operating system has their own advantages and
disadvantages, but ultimately only you can decide which is better.
Top
20) I've heard using Leopard on a non-Apple computer is illegal. Is that true?
No. Apple's software EULA (End User License
Agreement) specifically states that Mac OS X® should not be installed and used on
a non-Apple labeled computer. It is important to understand that Apple's software EULA is not a law, so
therefore it is not illegal to violate it. However if you violate the EULA you are effectively breaking a
contract, and would be subject to whatever penalties there are for doing so if
Apple, Inc is successful in taking any legal action against you. RSOL PC cannot recommend or endorse that you violate the EULA.
For additional information please refer to the
dedicated page on our web site that clearly discourages the use of OSx86 or
Leopard on non-Apple hardware.
Top
21) Can I run Leopard on any PC?
No. Mac OS X® requires very specific hardware to run
correctly and legally: an authentic Apple Macintosh computer. The "underground"
version of Mac OS X®
known as OSx86 can run on specific Intel-based PC's. It has been inaccurately
reported on the internet that anyone can install Leopard on every Intel X86
system. If that were true then the OSX86 Project would not exist. Some hardware
components are more compatible than others when it comes to running non-Windows
operating systems, and our Multi-Platform models have taken all the guesswork
out of the equation. We deliver a product that contains the most compatible
hardware. Note: OSx86 is not an
authorized operating system release by Apple, Inc and its distribution may
violate copyright law. RSOL PC does not promote, endorse or participate in the
distribution or use of illegal software
.

the Multi-Platform Desktop from RSOL PC capable of running two operating systems
at the same time?

29)
What kind of power supply is in the Smooth Series Multi-Platform Desktop
computer?
We are currently using a high
quality Thermaltake 500 Watt power supply in the Smooth Series Desktop. Its a no
brainer that the power supply is one of the most important components inside a
computer, but its an unfortunate reality that many computer companies often
install either a low-power or no-name unit inside their models just so they can
save themselves a few bucks. RSOL PC will never sacrifice reliability over
function. Check our Press Release
from 11/3/2007 to see the proof.
Top
30) What is the maximum amount of RAM that can be installed in the Smooth Series
Multi-Platform Desktop from RSOL PC?
The first generation Smooth Series
Multi-Platform Desktops from RSOL PC support a maximum of 8GB of RAM. The second
generation Smooth Series Multi-Platform Desktops released in Fall 2008 support a
maximum of 16GB of RAM.
Top
31) When
will you stop offering Windows XP as a preinstalled operating system?
It is our hope to continue offering
Windows XP on our models until January 31st, 2009.
Top
32)
Have you ever considered pre-installing Leopard as a standard operating system
choice on the Multi-Platform Desktop?
Yes. For a period of time prior to
the official release of our Multi-Platform Desktops, we did seriously consider
pre-loading Leopard onto our models. But in the absence of a reliable way to
provide software updates and the recent events involving Apple, Inc and another
computer manufacturer, it became evident that the only viable solution would be
to withdraw Leopard as a standard operating system choice, and in fact
discourage its use on our models..
Top
33) Where can I read a
copy of the warranty?
The Standard Limited Warranty can
be found here.
Top
34)
People say the Multi-Platform Desktop is a "Mac clone". Is that true?
No. The Multi-Platform
Desktop from RSOL PC is a computer that is primarily sold with a preinstalled
Windows operating system, but is also capable of running other popular operating
systems like Fedora and Ubuntu. Many people (mostly Mac owners) often forget
these facts because our computer can also be easily tweaked to run OSx86, and
there aren't too many ready-built computers on the planet that can make that
claim.
Top
35) Is Microsoft
Office going to be preinstalled?
No. Microsoft Office is a not part
of the operating system and needs to be purchased separately.
Top
36) Can
the Multi-Platform Desktops support "vanilla" kernels?
The
Smooth and Jive Series Multi-Platform
Desktops from RSOL PC are capable of running the OSx86 "vanilla" kernel. The
Tango Series requires a slightly modified OSx86 kernel. Please remember though
that Apple, Inc prohibits the installation of their operating system onto any
non-Apple labeled computer, and RSOL PC does not recommend you violate the terms
of any company's software End User License Agreement.
