Should I upgrade my computer?
Upgrading your PC is always always an option you should consider before throwing your computer away to make space for a new one. While it is extremely tempting to buy a new computer especially after seeing them advertised on TV for less than $300, be mindful that there are many parts inside your computer, and they can be replaced independently for probably less than $300.
The two most common upgrades performed are Memory and Hard Drive upgrades. Memory upgrades are performed to increase your computer's speed and performance, while Hard Drive upgrades allow you more storage space to save your files. An important thing you should consider is that all hard drives will eventually suffer a mechanical failure at some point in time, and can be catastrophic especially if you have not backed up your data. If you are unfortunate to lose your data it does not mean you have to throw your computer away. Replacement hard drives these days are bigger, faster and are far more inexpensive than they were two or three years ago -- you could have your computer back up and running with quadruple the storage space you had before for less than $100 -- and is far less than what you'd expect to pay for a brand new computer.
Of course there is a point when the cost of multiple upgrades will exceed the cost of a new computer, so do the arithmetic first before making your final decision.
